Welcome!We have good conditions for skiing-activities and snowmobile tracks to f.i. fishinglakes. The mountains are excellent touring ground in all seasons. If you like fishing in the sea, perhaps on the ice at wintertime, we have equipment and small open boats for rent. Several local guides will help you to find good places for skiing, fishing, or maybe birdwatching. In the season this area is also perfect to experience the famous Northern Light, and of course the Midnight Sun!
The fjord is the inner part of the famous Lyngenfjord, known from the good existence of several species of fish, especially cod and pollack but also haddock, trout, and salmon. Every year, cods about 30-40 kg is landed.
The area is known for the generous existence of cranberry, blueberry and crowberry. Locals run activities like horsebackriding and dog sledging. Also worth paying a visit is the domestic crafts, where you can buy handcrafts and souvenirs.
If you are planning a trip to Halti ( Raisduottarhaldi / Haldi ), Finlands highest mountain, you should know that you can do a daytrip to Halti from Birtavarre f.i. from sealevel or the end of the mountain roads. Routes from Finland might take several days.
With only 445 km to North Cape is Birtavarre a perfect place to rest for a few days before you start on the little more challenging roads further north. You should know we have a special deal for you, if you want to stay with us on your way back also. By the way, a dive through Nord-Troms and a few days in Birtavarre might the most relaxing part of your vacation. The view along the fjord with the mountains rising up from the sea, and the Lyngen Alps in the end, is an experience by it self!
